Cryogenic High-Nickel (Ni) Steel Capable of Withstanding Extremely low Temperatures

An inner tank is a space within an LNG storage tank that contains LNG of -163°C. It is another common area where POSCO’s high manganese steel and 9% nickel steel are applied. 9% nickel steel has superb low-temperature toughness that can withstand external impact at a temperature of as low as -163°C. The content of nickel depends on the type of liquified gas stored.

Cryogenic High Manganes Steel Capable of Withstanding Minus 196℃

High manganese steel is a new type of steel made by adding 24 percent of manganese to steel. It does not break at an extremely low temperature (as low as -196°C). It is also much cheaper than existing steel, helping reduce material and welding cost.
